Compas Direction Desk
Jean Prouvé
Production Vitra
Desk designed by Jean Prouvé for Vitra, 1953.
Compas Direction is made with a powder-coated steel base and an oiled solid wood top. Its slender metal legs are inspired by the form of a compass, giving the desk its distinctive profile. The contrast between steel and solid wood highlights the balance between structural rigour and the warmth of natural material.

Jean Prouvé
Born in Paris in 1901, Jean Prouvé was an architect, designer, and engineer. His vision redefined the approach to design by connecting architecture, engineering, and industrial design through a highly constructive method. Prouvé transferred the principles of industrial production to architecture and furniture, integrating artisanal know-how with modern technologies. In his work, form derives directly from structure, material efficiency, and function, placing utility and constructive logic at the center of the design process.
