Antique Chinese rug, hand-knotted.

Set against a shaded blue ground, the composition depicts a mountainous landscape with cranes, trees, clouds and a pavilion. A double border combines a meander pattern with a more geometric outer band, balancing narrative imagery and abstraction. Made in wool, the rug belongs to the Chinese textile tradition of the early twentieth century.
