Paolo Portoghesi

Paolo Portoghesi

Born in Rome in 1931, Paolo Portoghesi was an architect, historian, and theorist of Italian architecture. His work intertwined design, historical research, and critical reflection, re-evaluating the language of Baroque and symbolic architecture. He advocated for an architecture attentive to context, memory, and formal complexity. Portoghesi conceived architecture as a dialogue between past and present, where historical continuity becomes a stimulus for innovation.
