Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Born in Aachen, Germany, in 1886, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was an architect and designer and a leading figure of the Modern Movement. He began his training in his family’s workshop, gaining hands-on experience with materials and drawing while working as a decorator and furniture designer. After moving to Berlin, he developed his vision through collaborations with key figures in European architectural culture. Mies conceived design as a pursuit of structural clarity and essentiality, reducing form and space to their fundamental elements, where construction, function, and proportion achieve a rigorous balance.
