Alessandro Mendini was an Italian architect, designer, painter, journalist, critic, and theorist of architecture and design, and a pioneer of concepts and theories related to postmodern design, banal design, and re-design. A leading figure in many cultural events in Italy during the 1970s, he founded and participated in influential research movements and groups such as Global Tools (1973) and Alchimia (1979).
