Nobody's Guard Bookcase
Gaetano Pesce
Production ZeroDisegno
Sculptural bookcase designed by Gaetano Pesce for Zerodisegno, 2003.
Nobody’s Guard brings the bookcase into the realm of the art object, where function, form and material overlap. Made from polyurethane resin with a mirror insert, it has a totemic, anthropomorphic presence, defined by an irregular and deliberately imperfect form. Its outline suggests a stylised human figure, a guardian for the home, placing the piece at the intersection of furniture, sculpture and narrative. Produced as a unique piece and numbered No. 0, it reflects Gaetano Pesce’s vision of design as expressive, emotional and unrepeatable.

Gaetano Pesce
Born in La Spezia in 1939, Gaetano Pesce is an Italian designer and architect, considered one of the most influential figures in contemporary international design. His research focused on the experimental use of materials, particularly synthetic resins, employed as both expressive and structural tools, contributing to the emergence of Radical Design. Pesce challenged the notion of industrial seriality by introducing variation and unpredictability, conceiving design as a practice capable of reflecting the social and cultural complexity of the present.
