Product Details

Armchair designed by Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro for Zanotta, 1968.

An icon of modern design, Sacco is a seat without a rigid structure, made from a fabric or leather cover filled with expanded polystyrene beads. Its volume adapts to the weight and position of the body, offering a free, informal and constantly changing form of support. Created during the experimental period of Italian design in the late 1960s, it moved beyond the traditional idea of the armchair and introduced a new way of thinking about seating. Available in different sizes and upholstery options, the version shown here is in VIP fabric.

Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini & Franco Teodoro

Starting in 1965, Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini, and Franco Teodoro formed a collaboration that developed a design practice spanning architecture, product design, furniture, and urban research. Their work emerged within the climate of radical experimentation of the 1960s, challenging traditional housing typologies and the relationship between object and behavior. With the Sacco chair, designed in 1968, the group introduced a concept of seating that was free, informal, and unstructured, transforming the object into an experience and redefining the very notion of comfort. The project thus became a critical tool, capable of reflecting the social and cultural changes of the time.
