Le Corbusier was one of the most influential and prolific architects of the twentieth century. Working internationally, he left a body of work so significant that it continues to be studied across the histories of art, design and architecture. Born in Switzerland and later naturalised as a French citizen, he transformed modern urban planning and architecture over the course of his life, even designing an entire city in India in the 1950s. He remains compelling today for his sophisticated use of reinforced concrete and for the way he redefined ideas of space and the urban landscape.
