Ottoman designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, 1927.
Produced by Knoll.

Part of the Krefeld Collection, developed by KnollStudio in collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art, the Krefeld Ottoman is based on Mies van der Rohe’s original drawings for the interiors of the Esters and Lange houses in Krefeld. Its compact proportions, burgundy leather upholstery and walnut-stained oak feet give the piece a calm, balanced presence, true to the designer’s minimal architectural language. The solid wood frame supports a polyurethane foam cushion with a Dacron layer, while the underside is finished in fabric bearing the Knoll logos.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

Born in Aachen, Germany, in 1886, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was an architect and designer and a leading figure of the Modern Movement. He began his training in his family’s workshop, gaining hands-on experience with materials and drawing while working as a decorator and furniture designer. After moving to Berlin, he developed his vision through collaborations with key figures in European architectural culture. Mies conceived design as a pursuit of structural clarity and essentiality, reducing form and space to their fundamental elements, where construction, function, and proportion achieve a rigorous balance.
