Mirror designed by Man Ray, 1938.
Reissued by Cassina.

Les Grands Transparents brings Man Ray’s surrealist imagination into the interior, turning the mirror into an ambiguous surface between functional object and work of art. The elliptical form, made from polished-edge glass and screen-printed with the work’s title, brings together the written word, reflection and perception, making the graphic element a key part of the overall composition. The 6 mm mirrored surface is set within a rigid polyurethane frame, giving the piece a clean, clearly defined structure. The result is a striking yet minimal visual presence, introducing a poetic and conceptual dimension into everyday space.

Born in Philadelphia in 1890, Man Ray also worked on domestic objects throughout his career, intervening on existing forms and functions. In his design practice, everyday items are modified minimally but meaningfully, altering their use and perception. His projects do not aim at technical innovation, but at rethinking the object as an active presence in space, capable of suggesting new ways of interacting with the environment.
