Bookcase designed by Vico Magistretti for Cassina, 1977.

With Nuvola Rossa, Vico Magistretti turns the bookcase into a clear, open wooden structure that is foldable, lightweight and immediately recognisable. Angled uprights support a regular sequence of shelves, while four removable central shelves allow the composition to be adjusted as needed. The absence of side panels gives the piece an airy quality, making it easy to place in different domestic settings. Deceptively simple, Nuvola Rossa combines function and mobility in a clear, instantly recognisable structure. Available in different finishes and colours on request.

Vico Magistretti

Born in Milan in 1920, Vico Magistretti grew up in a family of architects, where design was part of a deeply rooted cultural tradition. His education took place within the same urban context, which in the postwar period became fertile ground for his contributions to the development of Italian industrial design. His work focused on the semplification of design, understood not as formal reduction but as conceptual and functional clarity. Magistretti conceived objects as direct responses to everyday use, combining industrial production, design intuition, and domestic quality, profoundly influencing the way contemporary living is approached.
