Platner Lounge Chair
Warren Platner
Production Knoll
Armchair designed by Warren Platner for Knoll, 1962.
The Platner Lounge Chair is built from a dense lattice of bent metal rods, transforming the structure into a continuous, decorative pattern with a light, almost vibrating quality. The vertical and horizontal rods create a sculptural form around an internal fibreglass shell, with a variable-density foam cushion secured by Velcro buttons. This example features nickel-treated aluminium rods and full upholstery in Tonus light blue fabric, Category G. Part of a collection that also includes the Side Chair, Stool, Easy Chair and Ottoman, the armchair brings together modernist clarity and ornamental richness in a single design. Available in different finishes and colours on request.
Design: 1962
Dimensions: W 95 × D 65 × H 48/77 cm
Warren Platner
Born in Baltimore in 1919, Warren Platner was an American architect and designer, trained in both architecture and interior design. After early experiences in prominent international studios, he developed a practice that combined structural rigor with decorative sensibility. In the 1960s and 1970s, Platner translated architectural language into furniture design, conceiving objects as elements capable of defining space. His work reflects an idea of design that is elegant and structured, balanced between form, function, and architectural context.
