Gio Ponti

Production Cassina

€2.420,00

Chair designed by Gio Ponti for Cassina, 1957.

Superleggera is Gio Ponti’s radical refinement of the traditional Chiavari chair, reducing the form to an absolute minimum. The black lacquered ash frame and woven cane seat create a chair that feels almost weightless, with every element serving a clear structural purpose. Weighing just 1.7 kg, it is one of Ponti’s most celebrated and enduring designs, admired for its extraordinary lightness and the precision of its construction.

Design: 1957
Dimensions: W 41 × D 45 × H 83 cm

Gio Ponti

Born in Milan in 1891, Gio Ponti was an Italian architect and designer, also active as a critic, artistic director, and publisher. Founder of the magazine Domus, he played a central role in shaping an Italian design culture open to international dialogue. In his work, architecture, furnishings, and objects coexist without hierarchy, forming parts of a single expressive system. Ponti conceived design as both an intellectual and everyday practice, capable of uniting industry and craftsmanship, experimentation and tradition, proposing a vision of living that is flexible, luminous, and profoundly modern.
