Production Meccani Arredamenti

Available upon request

Cabinet designed by Paolo Portoghesi for Meccani Arredamenti, 1980.

This two-door cabinet reflects Paolo Portoghesi’s interest in layered composition, with a careful balance of material, rhythm and decorative detail. Inserts in cherry, maple and rosewood create an architectural pattern across the surface, while the three central drawers interrupt the vertical lines of the doors and give the piece a more functional rhythm. A recessed mirror completes the design, adding depth to a wardrobe in which storage and ornament are given equal weight.

Design: 1980
Dimensions: W 180 × D 68 × H 213 cm

Paolo Portoghesi

Born in Rome in 1931, Paolo Portoghesi was an architect, historian, and theorist of Italian architecture. His work intertwined design, historical research, and critical reflection, re-evaluating the language of Baroque and symbolic architecture. He advocated for an architecture attentive to context, memory, and formal complexity. Portoghesi conceived architecture as a dialogue between past and present, where historical continuity becomes a stimulus for innovation.
